In this world, true saints who have realized their soul are very rare. Their inner-self is merged with super cosmic energy, although they look like any other ordinary person. This website is dedicated to one of such true saint, Sant Baba Waryam Singh Ji Maharaj, who preached religious thoughts and spread spiritual values throughout his life. The purpose of this website is to spread all the teachings and literature of Maharaj ji across the world which will help people to get rid from social evils and guide them spiritually.

In this section, we have made an attempt to bring out some important events in the life of 'Sant Baba Waryam Singh Ji'. He is the founder and head of VISHAV GURMAT ROOHANI MISHER CHARITABLE TRUST. He was born on June 17, 1918 in Dhamot, Tehsil Pyal, Distt. Ludhiana in Punjab to Sardar Kartar Singh and Mata Inder Kaur. Both the parents were very religious and deeply connected to Sikh way of life. At the early age of only four, Maharaj ji got baptized (amritpan) and started reciting Gurbani, meditation and Jap (repetition) of Guru Mantra (Waheguru) while studying in school life. After passing his matriculation examination in 1934, he joined Persian Commercial College and did the course of steno and telegraphy later on.

His childhood was greatly affected by the religious and spiritual atmosphere at home and he came in touch with many saints at very early age. He enjoyed the company of some prominent saints like Sant Attar Singh Ji Mastuana, Baba Nand Singh Ji Kaleran, Bhai Sahib Bhai Randhir Singh Ji, Sant Attar Singh Reru Sahib, Sant Dasondha Singh Ji Namdhari, Sant Jodh Singh Ji, and Sant Attar Singh Ji Attale wale. According to the teachings of such realized souls, he was in search of real master to surrender himself completely which ended once he met Sant Baba Isher Singh Ji Maharaj Rara Sahib. He was very different from ordinary children in actions and close to Sikh way of life. Before his birth, he had told his mother in a vision that he would not die as a child like the previous birth and would live for a longer life span. He would regularly recite WAHEGURU mantra 70000 times and read Gurbani (Nit-name) at a lonely place in early morning. He was so clear about his principles that one day when he was asked to read the tobacco aloud by his teacher, he preferred to keep quite and face the consequences of his teacher's wrath.

Baba Hira Singh Ji, who was Sant Ji's father-in-law, was also a realized soul. When he came to his native village Dhamot to perform Akhand Path Ceremony, he foretold his Sant Ji's father," You will be blessed with a son and a daughter will be born in our house. As per God's wish, they will be in tied in a marriage". It happened the same way as Sant Ji's was married in the early age as per the customs of that time. Even after marriage, he continued his Naam Sadhna and kept himself busy most of the time in religious affairs and kirtan.

At the age of 17, his mother took him to Rara Sahib to introduce him to Sant Isher Singh Ji. He surrendered himself completely at the very first sight of the Holy Saint and he felt the abode of God in him and started listening the cosmic music within him. After hearing to his answer to the question "Who are you and where do you come from?” the Holy Saint went into deep meditation for 40 minutes. After that the Holy Saint remarked "For the first time ever, my wedded soul has met another wedded soul; so far I have been meeting windows. You have to take just one step to completely merge with the super cosmic energy."

Now Sant Ji's decided to concentrate on practicing the real spiritual experiences and went away from home to Mastuana, Kamalpur, where Sant Shamsher Singh Ji lived. He reached Khara and then Jwahar ki Kothi and then he selected a thick jungle of "capparis" trees nearby, where he used to sit in Samadhi (posture of meditation) for nearly 22 hours everyday. He used to accept food only once a day served by Jiledar Harcharan Singh.

In 1936, Sant Isher Singh Ji Rara Sahib wale held diwan (congregation) in his native village of Dhamot and went to grace his family and inquired about his whereabouts from his wife Bibi Ranjit Kaur Ji. She replied that he was away from home since a long time and he might be practicing his Bhagti somewhere. On hearing this, Sant Ji gave him a telepathic message to return home through his eternal spiritual power. Within few days, he reached directly at diwan and looking at him Sant Ji signaled him to sit in the front row. At the end of the congregation Sant Ji asked him of his welfare and shared the experiences of spiritual stages in Samadhi. With Sant Ji’s inspiration and blessings he continued his efforts to practice Nam Jap and to understand more deeply the bliss and cosmic music within his body and soul. He always liked the lonely places to meditate, where no body would disturb him. He joined his family and helped parents in domestic and agricultural tasks but never bypassed his daily routine of Nam Jap and deep meditation.

As the life went on, in the year 1937, he went to Nawabshah (Sind Province now in Pakistan) in search of a job where he got a job offer in police but declined it. He experienced some unusual miracles at this place. Once he decided neither to cook food nor to eat food, thinking of a passage from Gurbani.

He didn't take the food for week, even the idea of food never struck his mind. Suddenly someone knocked his door and as soon as he opened the door he found a middle-aged lady from the neighborhood holding a food plate (two chapattis and saag) and asking him to eat it. On inquiring from the lady she told him that some unseen spirit was forcing her to immediately give you food by spelling your name. Within a week, two more wealthy families came to his house with an offer of free food and free lodging. He accepted one of the invitations with a condition that they would not inform anyone about the fact that he was meditating and eating very little food only once a day. He left soon after the owner of the house broke this promise.

Sant Ji traveled many places and spread spiritualism everywhere and taught lessons of Gurmat to people who came in his contact. He was stopped at Goth Chanda Singh by an old woman by calling him her own son in an affectionate manner. He stayed there for quite a long time and preached the people of thirty miles area the fundamentals of Sikhism and principles of Guru Granth Sahib. He brought thousands of peoples into the Sikh fold by baptizing them with Amritpan. He would sit in Samadhi for a long time in a basement. When this news reached his wife Bibi Ranjit Kaur, she reached there immediately after seeking the permission of his parents. This was for the first time she ever talked to him since they were married. With her strong and logical arguments, she convinced him to come back home. She reminded him of Sant Ji Rarewale’s words to enter the gristh ashram (to live in family) and advocated that it is better to serve saints than to become a saint, it is better to give than to take from someone. He returned back leaving thousands of his followers in tears.

On return, he went to Rara Sahib directly to pay his obeisance to Sant Ji. According to Sant Ji's wish, he served for six months as a manager at a Sardar Mohan Singh Coca Cola's furnishing company at Delhi. Then he served the army in cavalry brigade at Patiala from 1941 to 1951. He was approached by a contractor Hukam Chand to wanted to bribe him to get a huge defense order. Hukam Chand asked him to take a leave for one day so that things could be manipulated in his absence. Setting an example, he didn't agree to any of Hukam Chand's requests and the order was given to a genuine person and by doing so, he saved a lot of Govt. money. Then till the year 1966, he served in Punjab Civil Secretariat, in the Natural Calamity Department where he was honored for his hard work, dedication and honesty by the then Financial Commissioner of Punjab, Mr. Fletcher. Along with his job, he continued his satsang and interaction with the followers of other religions. During his stay in Chandigarh, he used to invite Sant Ji Rarewale regularly for preaching satsang in various Gurudwaras. He used to take every care of Sant Ji's comfort and even borrow money to spend lavishly for the service of sadh-sangat. Bibi Ranjit Kaur would always stand by him and prepare free kitchen for everyone and take care of the children. Sant Ji Maharaj was well aware of his financial situation and had high praise for his service, devotion and dedication. One day when he was leaving, he gave him these blessing " My dear, money never diminishes by charity, it multiples." He ordered him to leave the service and setout for U.P. for the cultivation of his farmland and he did so without loosing any time.

He did a lot of hard work and with the use of intensive cultivation, he made the farmhouse land worth of cultivation which was actually a jungle. But at that place the condition of Sikhs was not very good who settled there after partition. The Sikhs were known to be alcoholics, cattle stealers, hit men and Police would pull them from their headgear and insulting them in public, when they were drunk. He was distressed to see it but took at as a challenge and went from village to village to preach them the lesson of Gurmat, taking the people on his tractor trolley and driving his car at his own expenses. He was very successful as lot of people got rid of their social evils and came back to Sikh way of life with the help of his satsangs. As a result now that Trai Area is fully in Sikh fold and hundreds of truckloads of people reach Ratwara Sahib (HQ of VGRMCT) on the occasion of annual congregation every year.

Even though he was located in Uttar Pradesh, he used to visit Rara Sahib to discuss his views and share the spiritual experiences with Sant Ji every year. Sant ji visited UP, and saw that the people at that place were on right path now. Sant ji applauded all the efforts of Sant Baba Waryam Singh Ji and added that he should guide them now spiritually as well. At this when he showed his helplessness and then Sant Ji remarked "We can make an arrangement that while doing so, you will surrender your body to me and leave the rest upon me". He immediately replied that "My body, soul and everything belongs to you". It was then in 1973, when Sant Ji asked him to prepare videocassettes of kirtan vikhiyan (narration). Sant Ji offered him one hundred thousand rupees for this purpose to purchase the required equipment and a jeep but he didn’t reply and kept quiet. Next morning Sant Ji repeated his offer, then he replied that in that case, he would stay at Rara Sahib and would not return home. When Sant Ji didn’t accept that, he offered that I would be happy to do this work at my own expense and please bless me for that. At this Sant Ji felt happy and blessed him for the success of his benefaction. Sant Ji mentions this instance in his personal diary as "Asceticism".

Sant Maharaj Ji Rarewale merged his soul with Almighty in 1975 and after that Sant Baba Kishen Singh Ji took care of sangat. He continued to visit Rara Sahib with the offerings of sangat every year and Sant Baba Kishen Singh ji would bless him and sangat. Sant Ajit Singh Ji Nathalpur had also blessed him in vision to take care of the sangat of Ropar, Patiala, Rajpura, Ambala and Fatehgarh Sahib Districts. The sangat of these areas regularly visits Ratwara Sahib on annual functions.

He sold his land in UP in the year 1978 and moved to Chandigarh to preach sangat in the area as per the vision of Sant Ajit Singh Ji. He started survey of the villages of Ropar Distt. and nearby villages of Chandigarh. He found that the people cultivate tobacco and were addicts to it. They were caught in fake myths as they worshipped snakes, Mata Rani (smallpox) and other fictitious Gods and were far away from Sikh way of life. He then planned his preaching programs and took a map of villages and conducted religious congregations from village to village. Through his efforts, he made people aware of the path as shown by the Sikh Gurus and taught them to give up social evils and bad habits of indulging in alcohol, tobacco and meat, etc. As a result, a large number of people from this area joined Sikh stream. Throughout this mission, he used his car, own light and sound systems to hold these congregations and spent his own money for all the expenses.

He established a permanent prachar kendra in the year 1986 at Ratwara Sahib, 11 kilometers away from Chandigarh and founded Vishav Gurmat Roohani Mission Trust for Gurmat Prachar. As his sangat and followers were located at distant places, he opened mission's sub-centers at Khubia Nangal and Shalapur (U.P), Rajpura and Banur in Patiala Distt., Hirdapur in Ropar Distt., Mehli in Doaba region and Faridkot in Malwa region. In addition to weekly and monthly religious congregations, he started annual congregation (Samagam) in which people from across the world would take part which made Ratwara Sahib as very popular place of pilgrimage. Unlike other religious gatherings, the only purpose of these annual congregations was to spread all the teachings and literature of Shri Guru Granth Sahib Ji across the world as prominent scholars and saints would address the sangat to highlight the principles of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji and Sikh spiritual values.

He was very much aware of electronic media and used it for the purpose of spreading the teachings and Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji across the world. He used video cassettes and audio cassettes for this purpose and made over 1000 video cassettes and 2000 audio cassettes in the process. The video cassettes are made keeping in mind everyone, so they are duly dubbed in with the quotations from Gurbani in English, Hindi, and Gurmukhi and it also includes photographs from history and religion which makes the Ratwarasahib.org easier to understand by everyone. All the videos have become very popular among the sangat in India and many foreign countries and many devotees distribute them for free so that the message can reach to maximum number of people everywhere. There are many centers which have been set up all around the world for the distribution of these cassettes. One can find such centers in countries like USA, Canada, UK, Germany, Greece, Holland, Australia, and Arab countries.

In addition to above mentioned media, he also prepared literature for spreading the message of spiritualism and Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. He wrote many books on Gurbani and also started a monthly magazine 'Atam Marg' in April 1995 with an initial circulation of 4000 copies. The magazine became very popular and number of copies increased to 50000 very soon and it was also published in other languages like English and Hindi. The English version was started keeping in mind sangat of foreign countries and specially children of Sikhs abroad to make them aware of rich Sikh culture and its values. Apart from Atam Marg magazine, Sant Baba Waryam Singh Ji also wrote 20 books on different Gurbani subjects which are available in Punjabi, Hindi and English languages at all centers.

He dedicated his life to remove all social evils from the society and spreading the message of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji and countless people got baptized and choose Sikhism. He lived his life on these lines:

And as per the wish of Almighty, Sant Baba Waryam Singh Ji, laid off his body in Chandigarh, India on 31st October, 2001 leaving behind a rich Gurbani literature and media for coming generations.
